If you sell or are thinking of selling items for children twelve and under beware of the new stricter requirements. The Federal Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 upped the requirements based on lead content.
Resellers are responsible for screening out potentially harmful products. This may include T-shirts (paint on designs may contain lead). Other potential problem products include cribs, changing tables and furniture, even toys and wooden puzzles.
For more information about the consumer product laws regulating children’s resale items visit http://www.cpsc.gov/. Also, check consumer product websites for recalls and changes to the law.
